Welcome to ParksBase - Knowledge Base.

Integrated Open Space Services – IOSS fully supports the sharing of information and knowledge, particularly through open access databases. However, use of ParksBase - Knowledge Base is governed by some legal obligations. Adherence to these obligations strengthens the sustainability, longevity and usefulness of ParksBase - Knowledge Base.

Please read the following terms and conditions carefully as they govern your use of Parks Base - Knowledge Base.

  1. The Terms of Use may be changed at any time without notice; with any amendment effective immediately. Your continued use of ParksBase - Knowledge Base after any amendment constitutes an agreement that you comply with and are bound by the amended Terms of Use. Therefore, we recommend that you access and read the Terms of Use from time to time.
  2. ParksBase - Knowledge Base is one of two subsets of Parks Base (The other subset being the Parks Base Comparison Program).
  3. Parks Base is a collaboration between Integrated Open Space Services - IOSS and Parks & Leisure Australia. IOSS is the owner and operator of Parks Base, including the Parks Base Comparison Program, and ParksBase - Knowledge Base.
  4. IOSS currently funds the operation of ParksBase - Knowledge Base.
  5. The purpose of ParksBase - Knowledge Base is to create an easily accessible electronic knowledge database and a forum for information sharing by professionals in the broad field of “open space planning and management”. This field includes the many aspects of urban open spaces, natural areas, protected areas, vegetation management (eg trees), soils, turf, sport, recreation etc. The professionals are from a wide variety of disciplines, and both the public and private sectors. Please keep this latter point in mind if you are uploading in-house documents.
  6. Access to ParksBase - Knowledge Base sits behind a membership wall; that is, it is not open to the general public. Members are from relevant professional associations, professions and IOSS clients worldwide.
  7. ParksBase - Knowledge Base is a free of charge service to members of relevant associations, academic institutions, land managers, IOSS clients, and individuals – authorised by IOSS.
  8. Users of ParksBase - Knowledge Base have the ability to upload documents or attach web links, and participate in forums.
  9. All rights and interests in material uploaded or posted in linked websites in ParksBase - Knowledge Base , vests in the authors, copyright holders, site owners or operators of websites. Please respect their copyright when posting links to websites. Check the terms and conditions, and copyright policies on the potential linked website.
  10. When uploading documents (as opposed to attaching web links), if the material is covered by copyright you should either be the author of the document or have permission of the author to upload the document on ParksBase - Knowledge Base. Where possible attach a web link rather than upload a document, if you are not the author. If in doubt, contact the author, or IOSS admin@ioss.com.au.
  11. When uploading material or attaching web links, please cite author(s), exact title of work, and other relevant information in the appropriate boxes.
  12. IOSS reserves the right to edit and amend citations and supporting information posted by users when attaching web links, or uploading of documents to ensure compliance with the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth). Refer to Copyright Policy.
  13. IOSS reserves the right to delete a web link or uploaded document if it is likely to be in breach of the Copyright Act 1963 (Cth), or otherwise deemed inappropriate. IOSS will notify the user who uploaded the document or attached the web link, upon doing so.
  14. You will be bound by the terms and conditions (if any) posted on linked websites that you visit through ParksBase - Knowledge Base.

  1. However, IOSS makes no claim as to the accuracy, currency, reliability and correctness of the contents of material attached via links, or documents uploaded in ParksBase - Knowledge Base. Material is attached via links or uploaded on the basis that all persons accessing ParksBase - Knowledge Base undertake responsibility for the accuracy, currency, reliability and correctness of content.
  2. If you are accessing legal material via ParksBase - Knowledge Base (for example, legislation, regulations, judicial decisions) you should confirm such information from their source if it is of sufficient importance for you to do so.
  3. IOSS does not accept liability for loss or damages incurred as a result of reliance placed upon data presented in the Parks Base Comparison Program.

Copyright Policy

  2. Individual end-users of Parks Base Comparison Program are free to access, copy and print materials for their own use in accordance with copyright law.
  3. Individual end-users of ParksBase - Knowledge Base are free to access, copy and print materials for their own use in accordance with copyright law, and the copyright of source documents and web link materials.
  4. Users of ParksBase - Knowledge Base have the ability to upload documents or attach web links, and participate in forums.

Privacy Policy

IOSS places a high priority on respecting your privacy.

  1. Parks Base privacy policy is based on respect for international standards of information privacy protection and are in accordance with Australian national and state/territory laws insofar as they are applicable to Parks Base.
  2. Parks Base is a collaboration between Integrated Open Space Services - IOSS and Parks & Leisure Australia. IOSS is the owner and operator of Parks Base, including the Parks Base Comparison Program, and ParksBase - Knowledge Base.
  3. Access to Parks Base sits behind a membership wall; that is, it is not open to the general public.
  4. Access to the non-confidential components of the Parks Base Comparison Program is available to industry related groups for research purposes. Confidential data contributed by public sector organisations to the Parks Base Comparison Program, remains confidential and is not shared with any organisation or the general Parks Base membership.
  5. Access to ParksBase - Knowledge Base is currently available to members from relevant Australian professional associations, professions and IOSS clients within the broad field of “open space planning and management”.
  6. IOSS collects information for the purpose of operating Parks Base website.
  7. The following information that identifies you, may be collected when you use ParksBase:
    your name
    your organisation
    your email address
    the date and time of your visit
    the date of your last visit
    the number of times you have logged on
  8. The IP address you logged in from is also tracked.
  9. IOSS retains this usage information for purposes of usage analysis for the purpose of improving Parks Base. Access to and use of this information is restricted to staff from IOSS and Enspiral (the website developer) – subject to an agreement to adhere to this Privacy Policy.
  10. IOSS does not disclose or publish information which identifies individuals or organisations; or aggregated information about usage patterns.
  11. Please note: This Privacy Policy does not extend beyond the Parks Base website. When linking with other websites via ParksBase - Knowledge Base, we recommend that you read the privacy statement of that site.
